Vice Chairman KP Board of Investment & Trade and Chairman BRISD Call on Uzbek Ambassador to Enhance Bilateral Economic and Trade Ties

Islamabad, August 4, 2025 —Mr. Hassan Masood Kanwar, Vice Chairman of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Board of Investment and Trade (KP-BOIT), along with Mr. Qaiser Nawab, Chairman of the Belt and Road Initiative for Sustainable Development (BRISD), paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Alisher Tukhtaev, Ambassador of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Pakistan, to discuss emerging avenues of mutual cooperation and regional economic integration.

During the meeting, Mr. Hassan Masood Kanwar highlighted the vast investment potential in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, especially in key sectors such as tourism, agriculture, minerals, renewable energy, and industrial development. He apprised the Ambassador of his forward-looking vision to enhance foreign investment in KP and to promote indigenous products and local entrepreneurs across international markets.

Emphasizing KP’s geostrategic position, Mr. Hassan underscored the significance of Peshawar as a historic gateway to the Silk Road, making it an ideal hub for regional connectivity and economic collaboration.

H.E. Ambassador Tukhtaev appreciated the proactive approach of Mr. Hassan and acknowledged KP’s growing potential in regional trade. He reiterated Uzbekistan’s commitment to deepening bilateral trade ties with Pakistan and shared that both countries are working to achieve the $1 billion trade volume target.

The Ambassador also pointed to Uzbekistan’s favorable investment climate, business-friendly reforms, and various incentives available for foreign investors.

Ambassador Tukhtaev further emphasized the importance of cultural and people-to-people linkages and acknowledged Peshawar and Termez as “sister cities,” laying a strong foundation for enhanced cooperation in education, culture, and commerce. He also noted the strengthening connectivity through direct flights and land routes, which are essential for boosting trade, tourism, and logistics.

Chairman BRISD, Mr. Qaiser Nawab, appreciated the Ambassador’s active and brotherly approach toward the Pakistani business community. He acknowledged Uzbekistan’s significant efforts in fostering regional harmony, economic cooperation, and cultural diplomacy. Mr. Nawab also highlighted the role of BRISD in connecting Silk Road countries for sustainable development and trade, aligning closely with the shared vision of connectivity between Pakistan and Uzbekistan.

Multiple ideas for collaboration were discussed in the meeting, including bilateral investment forums, cultural exhibitions, and academic exchanges. The Ambassador was formally invited to visit Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to meet senior government officials, investors, and local chambers to explore investment opportunities firsthand.

H.E. Mr. Alisher Tukhtaev expressed appreciation for the invitation and assured his full support in strengthening bilateral ties. He affirmed that Uzbekistan sees Pakistan not only as a close neighbor but as a vital partner in regional economic growth.
